I looked forward to Dash and Drew’s Green Gables wedding photography all of last year. It was one of the first weddings that I booked in 2014 and from the moment I booked it I knew that it was going to be an amazing wedding. Dash and Drew are cool and fun couple and I knew they would be up for modeling for the camera and creating some really cool photos. Like Albert and Monica, whose wedding I blogged about before, Drew is a part of a family that I’ve known for a long time and grew up with so it was a great honor to be picked as their wedding photographer.
Their wedding day started at Lakehouse Hotel and Resort in San Marcos where we started off with some portraits of Drew and his best man Albert. Prep photos for guys are always so fast, so usually I’m able to get some details of groomsmen gifts, cufflinks, watches and other groom related details and be able to get some portraits of the groom without it taking much time. What usually helps is the groom being right on time and Drew was very punctual so we were able to finish on time and then get some photos of Dash having her makeup done along with her details.
The final details were finished at the wedding venue where Dash got in to her dress. Green Gables Wedding Estate has a really nice and spacious bridal prep room for the bride and her bridesmaids to get ready in and hang out before the wedding. They even provide you with a wedding coordinator that manages most of the day. On their wedding day, their coordinator assigned by the venue was really busy elsewhere, so it was a good thing that they had Amy June Weddings and Events there to help them out with decor and some extra details. As a wedding photographer I sometimes have to do extra things like put a boutonniere on groomsmen, lucky for me Amy was there to help out with that so that we could stay on time. She was crucial on this wedding day for things being a success, even though she was only there for decor she went above and beyond to make their wedding go well.
Wedding ceremonies are all about families coming together, that’s why I think it’s great when children of the bride or groom are included in the ceremony. Dash’s daughter was the flower girl, but they made sure to include her in the ceremony in more than just the processional. During their vows they called her up and made their promise to her as her parents to be a family and gave her a necklace to symbolize that promise.
The reception was simply just a lot of fun. There were some great toasts that were funny and emotional. There was lot’s of dancing during the reception, during that time I took the couple out for some more photos. The night time photos came out great. While we got the light and airy natural light wedding photos earlier in the day, when it got dark we brought out the lighting gear and did some high fashion wedding photography. I could not have been happier with how great everything came out. A lot of the credit goes to Dash and Drew for being so easy to work with and trusting me to do my job to create some great wedding photos for them.
