Admiral Baker Wedding
It’s amazing the level of excitement and anticipation waiting for a wedding to come. For me, that excitement grows more and more the week of the wedding as I start to plan out how I will approach and capture it. When the Admiral Baker wedding day for Ruby and Brandon finally came, I felt that I had gone over the game plan in my head so many times that on the day of everything seemed to fall perfectly in place.
Ruby and Brandon really made it easy for me to capture their story. Working with Amy from Amy June Weddings and Events they planned a great wedding from the preparation to the party. Ruby and Brandon got ready for their wedding at the US Grant Hotel which provided for some great backdrops that complimented the classic style of their outfits. I love the white walls with the detailed panels. They not only make for non-distracting backgrounds but bounce great soft light throughout the room. It is a great place to get ready for a wedding. The hotel is dog-friendly, so they also were able to keep their dogs near by giving them one less thing to worry about on their wedding day. Ruby and Brandon love their dogs! They even had their dogs as part of their engagement session.
The ceremony location was at the beautiful St. Josephs Cathedral just a few blocks from the US Grant. It was a great site to see Ruby being walked down the aisle by her older brother. When Ruby walked down the aisle, Brandon could not help but get a little teary-eyed. It was a great moment. After a few of the Catholic church traditions, Ruby and Brandon exchanged rings, kissed and walked back down the aisle as husband and wife. Their smiles said it all.
The couple celebrated with a reception at Admiral Baker Clubhouse for their friends and family. The reception was decorated beautifully in black and white with a little pop of color from the purple calla lilies in the centerpieces. They also used wine corks they had saved from dinner dates at home over the years to hold up the place cards. They also had great uplighting to give the room that extra touch for their celebration. I love uplighting at receptions. I feel like it’s the best thing that you could add that gives your photos the feeling of a great party and depth in the dance photos.
To be honest, it’s hard to pick my favorite moment from the day. From getting ready to the reception there were so many great moments. I think it’s a four-way tie between (1) going out onto the fire escape for Brandon’s portraits. (2) Riding in the limo with Ruby and Brandon as they poured champagne and insisted that I celebrate with them. (2) The tears during best man toast and just seeing all the love and happiness. (3) Watching Ruby’s dad get up to dance and how excited everyone got about it. It was a great wedding!
