When planning a destination wedding on a short notice, it helps to have a destination wedding planner and a destination wedding photographer to make things go smoothly. It does not matter how big or how small, having someone with experience can make a world of difference.
For Paig and Dustin their wish was to have a small wedding in Tacoma, where their families live. The only problem was that they live a thousand miles away from there and they would not be able to go there early enough to plan it. That’s were Amy with Amy June Weddings and Events came in. Since she has plenty of event planning experience, she was able to help Paig plan for the wedding using some of the resources she was familiar with in the Tacoma area.
They wanted to get married in her parents house with just a few close family members and friends watching. They both got ready inside of the house on different stories to not see each other. Then we went to a community park to do a first look. It’s Washington state, so there was no surprise when it started raining that morning. I don’t think that really bothered them at all. They wanted to be out in the rain for photos. As their destination wedding photographer I was not going to say no. They flew me to Washington to create some pretty wedding photos, so rain or shine that is exactly what we were going to do.
After the first look, we returned to her parents home for the ceremony and a lunch reception. It was great to see them spending time with the most important people in their lives. I think that a lot of couples that want something small and are limited to work timing issues like military couples in San Diego usually end up eloping where they are based. Unfortunately that usually means that important friends and family miss out on that important day. It was nice that Paig and Dustin made that extra effort to share that moment with them.
After the lunch reception was done, we got ready to go back out for photos. Paig put on her rain boots under her dress and we went for a little hike in the rain at Point Defiance Park. I was so excited to be able to photograph in such a nice location. The trip to Washington as their destination wedding photographer would have not been complete without being able to photograph in a moss covered forest.
