For some people getting all dressed up for photos is what an engagement session is all about. To me though, what is the point of getting all dressed up if you don’t usually dress that way. An engagement session is not a fashion shoot. To me an engagement session should be a reflection of who you are as a couple and what your relationship is really like. For the most part, wedding attire is a reflection of a tradition in our society and not really a personal statement. So if your wedding photos are going to show you in what is the getting married look, then make an engagement session an opportunity to show your style so that when future generations see the photos they see what you were really like. They are for much more than just save the date cards, wedding websites or signing books.
I take the opportunity to write that in this post because for Monica and Albert did not dress up for their engagement session. This was great because they are not dress up type of people and they did not want to fake it. They came to their engagement session very casually dressed. Albert even had his bandana sticking out of his back pocket, which he also had on his wedding day. I feel that when people are themselves you can see it in the photos. When I look through their photos I see two people who are happy, playful and comfortable together. When their grandkids see these photos I hope that they get a real idea of what they were like before they started a family.
Now don’t get me wrong, I do like it when couples get dressed up. However, I rather have real than a fashion shoot.
