Petco Park Lesbian Engagement Session
It was great getting to know Cheyanne and Yara during their Petco Park Lesbian Engagement Session. I had a good feel for them from their initial meeting, but I feel that it’s important to spend time with a couple before the wedding and get to know them. An engagement session is a perfect opportunity for that. During the initial meeting, I felt that they were both a little quiet and reserved. While that proved to be true in some environments, I found out during their engagement session that they have another side that is very passionate and emotional towards one another. They loved showing that to each other, so it made for some great photos.
They are avid softball players and love watching the Padres play, so we started the engagement session at Petco Park. The Park in the Park is an awesome location because it has a nice grassy hill with the stadium in the background. Having them play catch on the hill made it feel like we were actually in the stadium, but even better because we could capture the grandness of it all. This was my favorite part of their engagement session. During an engagement session, I love having couples do something that they naturally do together so that their personalities come out. For them throwing the softball around was perfect.
After their wardrobe change, we walked around the Gaslamp to take a few more photos. They sang and danced with each other throughout the rest of the shoot. It was great seeing their personalities come out. This was really important to me because I wanted those personalities to shine through on their wedding day and sometimes with all the nerves of the wedding day, it’s hard to build that relationship on the day of. For me, it’s especially important for gay and lesbian wedding couples because I want to see how they interact with each other since they don’t fall into the expected roles in a relationship. Every couple is different, so I want to spend time getting to know them so that they can be natural in front of the camera whether they are same sex engagements and weddings or not.
